INDIGENT- AND PENSIONER SUPPORT SUBSIDY: 2026/2027 FINANCIAL YEAR

 

Please be informed that the indigent support application process for the 2026/2027 financial year will commence on 04 May 2026.

Clients who complete applications during May 2026 will have their applications processed in June 2026. Should your application be approved, you will be allocated 50 free electricity units, and your discount on municipal services will be applied in July 2026. Clients who apply at a later stage will have their benefits allocated accordingly at a later date.

Municipal officials will be available at the municipal offices in the respective towns from 04 May 2026 between 09:00 and 14:00 to assist with the completion of the required application forms.

If you are already registered as an indigent customer, you are required to reapply for the 2026/2027 financial year. Please note all pensioners who are homeowners (exceeding the threshold of R 7 000.00) will qualify to receive 50 kw electricity and 6 kl water free monthly.

The following documents are required:

  1. The latest municipal account of the household;
  2. Certified copy of identity document(s) of all residents of the household older than 18. 
  3. Proof of income (approval letter of pension/disability from SASSA or certified copy of payslip or latest 3 months bank statements) or sworn affidavit of the total household income;
  4. Sworn affidavit if unemployed.
  5. Certified copy of the death certificate, if the owner of the property is deceased.
  6. Affidavit by the owner confirming that the property is being leased to the applicant.
