ATTENTION: ALL INSTALLERS AND CUSTOMERS (i.e. Users of alternative energy including homeowners and businesses)

URGENT NOTICE: 10/1/2/1/1

URGENT NOTICE: 10/1/2/1/1

ATTENTION: ALL INSTALLERS AND CUSTOMERS (i.e. Users of alternative energy including homeowners and businesses)

Subject: (SSEG) Small Scale Embedded Generator System/Solar PV installations

Urgent Appeal:

The Cederberg Municipality makes an urgent appeal that all Installers and Users of alternative energy must URGENTLY become legally compliant in line with Cederberg municipal policy and By-laws, regarding their SSEG installations.

BACKGROUND

During early 2022, the Cederberg Municipality adopted the SSEG policy document which sets out the compliance parameters to be followed by all Installers and Users.

COMPLIANCE CHECKS REVEAL IRREGULARITIES

The technical team of the municipality are currently conducting random compliance checks and have discovered a number of Installers and Users who are non-compliant with the policy.

RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH NON COMPLIANCE

All systems that are non-compliant run the risk that the electricity lines (municipal lines) remain live, even when you are running off your SSEG, because you have not installed the appropriate meters.  This means that our workers who work on the electricity lines risk being electrocuted because of the live feed of electricity back into the grid from your SSEG system which is non-compliant.

WE WILL FINE YOU AND CUT YOUR ELECTRICITY

The Municipality will issue the necessary fines and also cut your municipal electricity supply as soon as it discovers that your SSEG is not compliant.

APPEAL

Therefore, the municipality appeals to all installers and Users to ensure that your system is compliant with the requirements as set out in the approved policy of the Cederberg Municipality.

OFFER ASSISTANCE

The municipality is hereby offering the assistance and advice of its technical team to help guide customers to become compliant as a matter of urgency.

THANK YOU

The municipality wants to thank those customers who have installed these systems legally.  The municipality supports the SSEG approach as it takes a lot of the strain away from our electrical infrastructure and also contributes to our desire for cleaner and sustainable energy.

Please contact the Manager: Electro-Technical Services at randalls@cederbergmun.gov.za for any assistance. The SSEG Policy and related documentation is also freely available on the municipal website.
