By-law relating to the Control of boats and boating on the Clanwilliam dam 8677, 4 November 2022.

The following boating rules should be adhered to as per the Cederberg Municipality: By-law relating to the Control of boats and boating on the Clanwilliam dam 8677, 4 November 2022.

- No negligent and reckless operating of any boat, vessel, jet ski, power driven vessel or sailing boat on Clanwilliam dam.

- Not operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol or any drug.

- Not operating in a manner dangerous to the public or to endanger or damage any property or facility.

- The prescribed entrance fee must be paid by all boat owners entering the Clanwilliam dam resort entrance (including boat clubs).

- The required SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) documents i.e. skippers ticker, certificate of competence, must be present with the owner of any boat including life-saving apparatus equipment.

- Not operating a boat while it is leaking oil, petrol or any toxic substance.

- No person shall follow closer than 100 meters in the wake of a water-skier.

- No boat shall be left on any slip-way except for purpose of repair or an emergency.

- No pollution of any kind is allowed on the dam and surrounding areas.

- No person shall leave a vessel unattended on the dam unless it has been properly anchored, moored or removed to dry land a safe height above the water level.

- No person may catch fish without a licence and no wild animal in the water area may be disturbed or injured.

 

If the boating rules are not adhered to a fine will be issued and the boat can be impounded by an authorised official working at Cederberg Municipality. The use of Clanwilliam dam is by the owner’s own risk and the Municipality shall not be liable for any injury which is sustained by any person using the dam or any facility or for damage to any property.
